Vietnam’s exports of textiles, garment and fabric imports in first five months

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first five months of 2018, Vietnam exports of textiles and garments; and imports of fabrics both saw growth, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The country’s exports of textiles and garments increased by 16.2 per cent year – on – year in the first five months of this year to over US$ 10.91 billion, accounted of 11.2 per cent of the country’s total export turnover.

In the first five months of this year, the country’s exports of textiles and garments to the U.S increased by 12.4 per cent to $ 5.15 billion; to the EU – up by 12.1 per cent to $ 1.43 billion; to Japan – up by 22.6 per cent to $ 1.39 billion; and to South Korea – up by 22 per cent to $ 1.09 billion.

Especially, in the period, the exports of textiles and garments to Finland increased sharply by 123 per cent over the same period last year to $ 5.96 million; to Angola – up by 121 per cent to $ 6.57 million; to Turkey – up by 96.8 per cent to $ 19.23 million; to Poland – up by 69.3 per cent to $ 23.43 million; to Myanmar – up by 65.9 per cent to $ 9.19 million; to Egypt – up by 65.2 per cent to $ 2.33 million; and to Hungary – up by 60.4 per cent to $ 1.84 million.

In the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of textiles and garments to CPTPP countries accounted for 17.1 per cent of the total with $ 1.87 billion. Of the figure, the exports to Japan increased by 22.6 per cent to $ 1.39 million; to Singapore – up by 22 per cent to $ 39.16 million; to Canada – up by 17.4 per cent to $ 230.29 million; to Australia – up by 16 per cent to $ 79.41 million.

Imports of fabrics totaled $ 5.13 billion
Vietnam’s imports of fabrics totaled US$ 5.13 billion in the first five months of this year, increased by 14.6 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In May, the country’s imports of fabrics increased by 23.2 per cent over the previous month and by 14.4 per cent over the same month of last year to $ 1.45 billion.

China was the country’s biggest fabric import market of Vietnam in the first five months of this year with the import value of over $ 2.8 billion, up by 18.2 per cent over the same period last year.
It was followed by South Korea with $ 875.97 million; and Taiwan - $ 678.5 million.

In the first five months of this year, the country’s imports of fabrics from Switzerland increased sharply by 112 per cent to $ 2 million; from Britain – up by 110 per cent to $ 6.6 million; from Malaysia – up by 98 per cent to $ 36.12 million.

However, the imports of fabrics from the Philippines decreased sharply by 77.2 per cent to only $ 0.12 million; from the U.S – down by 18.9 per cent to $ 11 million; and from Pakistan – down by 1.3 per cent to $ 18.23 million.
