Vietnam wins ten medals at ASIAD
Thursday, August 23,2018AsemconnectVietnam - As of 8:30pm on August 22, Vietnam had won three silver and seven bronze medals at the ongoing Asian Games 2018 (ASIAD) in Indonesia, ranking of 20th out of 45 countries and territories participating in the tournament.
Earlier in the day, wushu artist Hoang Thi Phuong Giang seized a bronze medal in the women’s chang quan event.
With 9.71 points, Giang came in behind Li Yi from Macau, and Qi Xinyi from China.
Also on the day, Vietnam’s female sepak takraw team took a bronze in the women’s regu event after losing to the Republic of Korea (RoK) 0-2 in the semi-finals.
On August 21, the country’s golden hope Nguyen Thi That failed to reach the podium in the women’s 104km road race cycling, coming in fifth with a time of 2:57.35.
Na Ah-reum from the RoK finished first, followed by China’s Pu Yixian and Japan’s Eri Yonamine.
The An Giang-born cyclist That stuck with her rivals well in the first 100km but faded towards the end of the race.
At the previous ASIAD in 2014, Vietnam won one gold, 10 silver, and 25 bronze medals, ranking 21st in the overall medal tally.
Vietnam is aiming to win at least three gold medals at this year’s event.
