Le Quang Liem wins over world’s chess champion
Monday, July 17,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem secured a major win at the Danzhou Super Grandmaster Tournament in China after defeating world rapid chess champion Vassily Ivanchuk from Ukraine on July 16.
Liem claimed victory after 41 moves and earned 4.5 points, ranking second in the tournament’s table.
He will next play Lu Shanglei who lost to Wang Hao in an all-Chinese match on July 16.
Wei Yi of the hosts maintained his position as the tournament leader with 5.5 points.
Third place is held by Ding Liren of China, who has four points.
The eighth edition of the tournament will continue until July 18 on the island province of Hainan.
This year, the 10-player single round-robin format features five international grandmasters, as well as top Chinese players.\
