The eighth conference on tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Taiwan (China) was held in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on October 18.
Vietnam and Taiwan have taken turns hosting the annual event since 2012, in a bid to introduce and connect Vietnamese tourism companies and localities with Taiwanese tourism authorities and firms.
Taiwan is among Vietnam’s five leading sources of tourist while Vietnam is also a key market of Taiwan’s tourism. More than 1.2 holidaymakers travelled to the other side last year, a year-on-year surge of 21 percent.
In the first nine months of this year, nearly 675,000 Taiwanese came to the Southeast Asian nation, up 28 percent against the same period of 2018.
Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Ha Van Sieu stressed that Vietnam has emerged as a competitive destination in the region as the country’s tourism sector recently received major international tourism awards.
In addition, Taiwan is currently Vietnam’s fourth largest foreign investor. Therefore, tourist arrivals from the territory to Vietnam and vice versa are projected to rise in the coming time, he added.
The two sides were advised to further step up cooperation to drive the bilateral tourism development, thus tightening economic, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
At the event, participants were updated on new policies of Vietnam. They also shared experience in resort tourism in rural areas, as well as development trends of accommodation establishments in line with health and beauty care, and agreed on activities in 2020./.
