International badminton tournament wraps up in Hanoi
Monday, April 15,2019AsemconnectVietnam - The Ciputra Hanoi-Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge 2019 wrapped up on April 14 after five days of thrilling competition in men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
Firman Abdul Kholik from Indonesia, easily beat his fellow Chico Aura 21-16 and 21-7 in the men’s singles event to get the gold medal.
In the women’s singles, Japanese player Hirari Mizui earned the championship title after trouncing Se Young-An from the Republic of Korea (RoK) 21-19 and 21-11.
This is a successful tournament for Indonesian athletes who brought home championship in the men and women’s doubles events. Kenas Adi Haryanto and Rian Agung Saputro won Kang Min Hyuk and Kim Jae Hwan of the RoK after three nail-biting sets. Meanwhile, Nita Violina Marwah and Putri Syaikah had a convincing victory 2-0 over Hsieh Pei Shan and Lin Xiao Min from China’s Taiwan.
Japanese pair Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito were crowned the champions in the mixed event after thrashing Thai couples Vichayapong Kanjanakeereewong and Ruetthaichanok Laisuan 2-0.
The Ciputra Hanoi-Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge 2019 proved its growing prestige as it drew the participation of 292 players from 18 countries and territories, including Japan, the RoK, China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, which are strong in badminton.
The Vietnam International Challenge has been running for 12 years and became an official tournament of the Badminton World Federation last year.
