Vingroup establishes sci-tech fund
Saturday, August 25,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s largest property developer, Vingroup, has established a fund worth VND1 trillion (US$42.9 million) to support research projects on science and technology applications, according to local media.
At a seminar on Vietnam’s artificial intelligence (AI) development held by the Ministry of Science and Technology on August 21, U.S.-based Yale University’s Professor Vu Ha Van, director of Vingroup’s Big Data Research Institute, who will help manage the fund, said the fund will officially go into operation early next year.
Van added the fund will assist domestic universities and research institutes in conducting research projects on computer science, AI, robotics, automation, nanotechnology, renewable energy and new-generation materials, with a vision toward creating useful products and solutions.
It will also help build links between enterprises and academia and grant scholarships to talented Vietnamese students majoring in technology.
At the seminar, Van also introduced the Big Data Research Institute, which was established by Vingroup. The institute will focus on machine learning, AI and applied science and will organize training programs.
