SBIC still dogged by huge losses

 Saturday, May 26,2018

AsemconnectVietnam - Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC), formerly Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin), is still grappling with losses of VND5-7 trillion, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper cited National Assembly (NA) deputy Nguyen Phi Thuong of Hanoi as saying.

At a discussion on May 22 of the NA on the nation’s socio-economic performance in 2017 and this year and the final accounts of the State budget in 2016, deputy Thuong voiced his concern over the management of State capital at enterprises.

He said the NA has inspected the use and management of State capital at State-owned enterprises and would send a report on inspection results to NA deputies soon. The inspections found that some enterprises still suffer from losses, bankruptcy and bad debts.
Particularly, SBIC is still sitting on huge losses although the Government in 2010 launched a project to restructure Vinashin.
As for the healthcare sector, deputy Nguyen Phuoc Loc said there have been shortcomings in the sector such as high healthcare fees, poor management of the production and trade of pharmaceutical products, violent attacks against health workers and low capital disbursement for the sector (2.4%).
Deputy Pham Khanh Phong Lan proposed harsh punishment against Vinaca Co Ltd which produced a cancer drug from bamboo charcoal powder and measures to protect health workers from attacks.
