According to the agreement, Safran - CFM will provide 321 engines for 148 Vietjet planes. In addition, the French firm will provide the airline with technical and maintenance services, aviation technical training, and research programs for fuel efficiency improvement, technical management and development of a maintenance facility of regional stature.

Dinh Viet Phuong, deputy general director of Vietjet, said Safran - CFM’s technical experience and modern engines will enhance the capacity of Vietjet’s fleet.

Speaking at the event, Vice President of Safran Aircraft Engines and CFM Philippe Couteaux said the deal was built on the mutual trust between Vietjet and Safran - CFM, and the French firm’s products and services of high quality. It marks a new development in the partnership between the two companies.

On the same day, Vietjet signed a contract with GECAS France to hire and purchase six A321ceo aircraft. The agreement is valued at US$800 million.

The investment will help Vietjet expand its domestic and international flight networks. The carrier is operating 56 A320 and A321 aircraft, and more than 385 flights a day.

It has already transported more than 55 million passengers on 82 domestic and regional routes such as Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia.
