WeChat Pay e-wallet launched in Vietnam
Friday, December 22,2017AsemconnectVietnam - E-wallet service provider Vimo Technology ISC on December 20 clinched a deal with Southern Airports Services JSC (SASCO) to provide WeChat Pay e-wallet service for Chinese tourists to Vietnam.
According to Vimo, the deal will make it convenient for Chinese tourists to pay in Vietnamese dong via WeChat Pay e-wallet at SASCO duty-free and retail shops at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
They are expected to pay for goods and services by using WeChat Pay app on their smartphones to scan QR codes early next year.
Nguyen Van Hung Cuong, deputy general director of SASCO, said the firm operates duty-free and retail shops, business class lounges and food chains at airports. SASCO is taking advantage of this modern payment technology to bring convenience to customers, he noted.
Do Cong Dien, general director of Vimo, said the company will team up with more partners from various fields at home and abroad to expand the WeChat Pay e-wallet service.
Vimo, the first intermediate payment service provider in Vietnam, allows Chinese tourists to pay in Vietnamese dong using WeChat Pay, one of the two popular e-wallets among the Chinese.
Vimo accepts payments via WeChat Pay at 500 agents including 50 stores of seven corporations at five international airports with direct air services from China.
Data shows Vietnam is one of the destinations most visited by the Chinese in the region. An estimated 3.5 million Chinese have visited Vietnam so far this year, bringing roughly US$3 billion in revenue for the domestic tourism sector.
