Sao Mai Group to overcome an exciting and successful year

AsemconnectVietnam - 2016 was another year of success for Sao Mai Group. The brand position was further strengthened. The group is confident to enter the year 2017 with burning aspirations for breakthrough. The following are major milestones of Sao Mai Group in 2016.

Third-grade Labour Order

On February 25 in An Giang province, Sao Mai Group held a solemn New Year Meeting 2016 and received the Third-grade Labour Order. This was an honour and reward that the Party and State gave to Sao Mai Group in recognition of its outstanding production and business achievements as well as its valuable contributions to the community and the society.

Set up in 1997 from a small business with a very low starting point, after 20 years of construction and development, Sao Mai Group is now a leading economic group in the Mekong Delta region with 16 member companies with a combined registered capital of nearly VND6,000 billion. The group presently has more than 7,000 employees.

Seafood Customers Conference 2016

On March 14 in Long Xuyen City, An Giang province, Sao Mai Group hosted the Customer Conference themed “Sao Mai Fish Feed and Cooperation Model Result Assessment”. The meeting brought together officials, agricultural specialists and fish farmers in the Mekong Delta.

“Connected farming household” model, first phase, accepted the methodology: Sao Mai Group invested in feed and purchased products raised by farmers, which was launched more than a year earlier with the engagement of 51 farming households in An Giang, Dong Thap and Can Tho. Accordingly, Sao Mai Group invested all investment capital into Sao Mai Fish Feed Company, guided farmers to rear fish according to Global Gap standards. With reasonable pricing methods, all households made profit.

Work starts on Sao Mai - Trieu Son Urban Area

On April 21, Sao Mai Group held a groundbreaking ceremony to start construction on Sao Mai - Trieu Son Urban Area in Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa province. The project is located in Xuan Thinh and Tho Dan communes. The township is 30 km from Thanh Hoa City and 7 km from Sao Vang Airport. It is connected with Thanh Hoa City - the provincial capital - and the airport via National Highway 47. The urban area covers 51.57 hectares divided into 1,484 residential plots for semidetached houses, townhouses and villas. The urban area also has public utilities such as hospitals, markets, kindergartens, primary schools, culture houses, water treatment plants, green parks and wastewater treatment facilities. The most prominent project will be a 500-bed general hospital, costing VND800 billion.

This project is not only the realisation of the group’s strategy of expanding its business presence nationwide but also a gift that Sao Mai Group and Mr Le Thanh Thuan, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Sao Mai Group want give to Thanh Hoa province.

Contract with Koyo Group

On June 21, Sao Mai Group and Koyo Corporation - an affiliate of Koyo Group of Japan - signed a solar energy distribution contract and an additional cooperation agreement. This was the next step after the first handshake between the two groups at the end of 2015. The two sides actively implemented cooperation programmes signed in December 2015. Koyo supplied energy-saving outdoor smart solar LED lighting products to Sao Mai Group to install in latter’s production facilities, urban areas and resorts.

Later on November 10, 2016, the two groups signed a contract on supply and installation of solar power generators and a labour export cooperation agreement. Accordingly, with the support of Koyo, Sao Mai Group will build a 208-MW solar power plant in Tinh Bien District, An Giang province. This will be one of a few first large-scale solar power plants in Vietnam.

Scientific conference on Ranee cooking oil

The Scientific Conference on “Ranee Fish Oil & Community Health” was held by the National Institute of Nutrition in July 2016. The information from the workshop reaffirmed the role of fish oil, particularly Ranee-branded fish oil, for human health. Dr Le Danh Tuyen, Director of the National Institute of Nutrition, said that this brand will be added into the national strategy for micronutrient supplementation.

Sao Mai Group is pioneering to apply modern refining technologies to produce premium cooking oil, Ranee, a wholly natural product.

Mekong Chef Competition 2016

Mekong Chef Competition 2016, which took place on September 16, 2016, was part of the 10th Vietnam - France Local Cooperation Conference opened in Can Tho City on June 14 - 17, 2016. The contest brought together dozens of chefs from restaurants, hotels and foreign celebrities to perform their talent on catfish. The Mekong Chef Contest 2016 was held by Vietnam Pangasius Association. 20 chefs cook 50 dishes from catfish, a proof for the culinary diversity of the key aquatic species of the Mekong Delta. Ranee premium cooking oil made by Sao Mai Group was used in the contest. This oil was extracted from catfish fish containing enough of important nutrients essential for human body like unsaturated fatty acids Omega 3,6,9 EPA, DHA, vitamins A, E ad completely natural trace minerals.

Sao Mai - Binh Kanh 5 Market inaugurated

Sao Mai - Binh Kanh 5 Market was inaugurated and opened on September 25, marking a new journey and a new phase of business development for local merchants. The market covers more than 9,000 square metres split into 330 kiosks and stalls. The market cost VND20 billion for construction.

Shortly later, Sao Mai Group officially opened Sao Mai - Binh Khanh 5 Night Market. This facility will meet rising shopping demand at the end of the year. On this occasion, the group inaugurated a culinary space in the city. The market is active from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Apart from shopping products like consumer goods, souvenirs and jewellery, customers will have the chance to enjoy extremely attractive local dishes.

16th member - An Giang Tourism Joint Stock Company debuted

After several attempts to purchase shares of An Giang Tourism Joint Stock Company, dated December 12, 2016, Sao Mai Group officially launched An Giang Tourism Joint Stock Company, its 16th member company. Earlier, Nguyen Kim Development and Investment Company held 35 per cent of stake in An Giang Tourimex, followed by Sao Mai Group with more than 32 per cent, the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee with 30 per cent and the public with 2 per cent. Then, the group bought into 35 per cent of stake held by Nguyen Kim to raise its holdings to 68 per cent.

This move reaffirmed a growing stature of Sao Mai Group and a golden milestone of An Giang Tourism Joint Stock Company on the path of development.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development visits Sao Mai Group

On his visit to An Giang province on December 14 at the Vam Cong Industrial Complex, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - Mr Nguyen Xuan Cuong - visited and worked with Sao Mai Group. He appreciated the groundbreaking development direction of Ranee premium cooking oil, a product that adds value to pangasius. This nutritional product is good for human health. He also suggested Sao Mai Group have a research institute to study on the catfish to increase the added value for the typical product of the Mekong Delta.

Can Tho City leaders visit Sao Mai Group

On December 26, a delegation of Can Tho City led by Ms Vo Thi Hong Anh - Vice Chairwoman of the City People’s Committee - paid a working visit to Sao Mai Group as the group is preparing to carry out many important projects in the city. At the meeting, Sao Mai Group introduced its business performances as well as its project information to the city’s delegation. In addition to discussing investment project plans of Sao Mai Group, Can Tho City leaders also provided its investment attraction plans and the list of projects in need of capital to the group.

Earlier, in 2015, Can Tho City also met Mr Le Thanh Thuan, Chairman of Sao Mai Group, to work on some real estate and industrial zone infrastructure projects in the city. Accordingly, the city agreed to transfer Lot No. 1 - Hung Phu Residential and Commercial Service Complex in Cai Rang District and Sao Mai Urban Area in Vinh Trinh Commune, Vinh Thanh District and Thoi Thuan ward, Thot Not District to Sao Mai Group.
