Vietnam Airlines earns $71.9 million in pre-tax profit
Monday, July 25,2016AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam Airlines Joint Stock Company (Vietnam Airlines) has said it earned more than VND36 trillion (US$1.6 billion) in estimated revenue and VND1.6 trillion ($71.9 million) in pre-tax profit in 2016's first half.
The company has achieved nearly 70 per cent of the target set for this year.
The parent company earned more than VND29 trillion in revenue and nearly VND1.14 trillion in estimated profit.
To achieve these good results, the carrier operated more than 70,300 flights, carrying 9.65 million passengers during the period, a year-on-year increase of 10.7 per cent and 15.5 per cent, respectively.
The firm also achieved freight output of 124,800 tonnes, exceeding the plan target, an increase of 18.1 per cent year-on-year.
Vietnam Airlines said it also accomplished two major tasks of restructuring and equitisation with the signing and receipt of the share transaction payment made by ANA Holdings, which became a strategic shareholder on July 1.
On July 12, the carrier received the four-star airline certification at SkyTrax's World Airline Awards event at Farnborough International Airshow 2016. The airline is now among the world leading four- to five-star carriers. At the same time, the company has also been recognised as one of the top three airlines in the world that have shown the maximum improvement.
These achievements can be attributed to the efforts of Vietnam Airlines in making groundbreaking developments, such as taking advantage of opportunities to grow, increasing profitability and improving service quality, besides enhancing business efficiency.
Vietnam Airlines will continue to mobilise resources till the end of this year to ensure safety and security, improve the efficiency of fleet usage, and achieve good co-ordination with the airlines of the corporation and with strategic partner ANA and other SkyTeam members to introduce proper products that provide comfort in transit, are attractively priced, and meet the quality of a four-star service and the increasing needs of passengers.
