Vietjet plans new Vietnam-Australia air route

 Monday, March 19,2018

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s low-cost airline Vietjet and the Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) of the Australian State of Queensland signed a agreement in Sydney on March 16 for the launch of a direct air route between HCM City and Brisbane with the aim of promoting tourism, trade exchange, and integration in the region.

The event was witnessed by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, senior government leaders of Australia, and officials of both nations
CEO and Managing Director of BAC Julieanne Alroe said the frequency of travel between Queensland and Vietnam has increased at an average rate of 8% per year over the past five years, offering new services for market expansion.
Ms Julieanne Alroe said that Vietjet’s choice of Brisbane city in Queensland State as the first Australian destination to serve a direct air route is completely rational, as HCM City is one of the five largest markets of Brisbane but it has been lacking a direct air connection..
She expressed hope that Vietjet’s early operation of the new air route will contribute to further tightening the relationship between Queensland and Vietnam.
Vietjet Air Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh said that through their new ‘Sky-Connection’ program, Vietjet has shown its willingness for global integration with high quality and friendly services in order to connect Vietnam’s centres of economy and tourism to other nations around the globe, such as Australia.
The HCM City-Brisbane air route is the first direct connection to receive cooperation and positive support from BAC and Tourism and Events Queensland, Binh said, and hopes that the new air route will run soon to meet the aspirations of people and tourists.
The new direct air route connecting HCM City to Brisbane is expected to be operational in 2019. On the occasion, Vietjet and its partner Australia-based Investec inked an agreement to provide financial support for five Airbus A321s worth US$609 million based on manufacturer’s marked price.
