Vietjet and Safran sign fuel efficiency agreement

 Monday, June 26,2017

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company and France’s high-technology group Safran inked a service agreement on a fuel efficiency solution on June 21 during the Paris Airshow 2017 in France.

The service contract lasts until 2022 and covers the entire fleet of the HCMC-based low-cost airline, according to a statement issued on June 22 by the two sides. The agreement will help Vietjet improve its operational efficiency by reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The agreement provides for operational recommendations on fuel efficiency known as SFCO2, along with a special SFCO2 web application that enables the airline to track its progress and potential savings.

The SFCO2 solution combines the expertise of Safran Aircraft Engines, one of the world’s leading aero-engine manufacturers, with the long-standing experience of Safran Electronics and Defense in flight data analysis.

“As an important element of the Vietjet fuel efficiency program, Safran’s SFCO2 service will enable us to meet our fuel consumption efficiency objectives, so we can combine economic and environmental friendly performance,” said Vietjet vice president Dinh Viet Phuong.

By analyzing both operational and maintenance aspects, Safran’s SFCO2 service develops procedures and recommendations to address airlines’ need for greater fuel efficiency which can reduce Vietjet’s fuel consumption by up to 5%. Accordingly, the fuel expense saved is expected to amount to tens of millions of U.S. dollars on an annual basis.

“We are proud of winning this contract to support Vietjet’s day-to-day performance and dynamic growth over the next five years,” said François Planaud, Safran vice president of Services and MRO. “Our selection by Vietjet confirms the effectiveness of our SFCO2 service and provides further recognition of our global expertise in fuel efficiency solutions.”

Vietjet now has a fleet of 40 A320 and A321 aircraft, and operates over 350 daily flights. It has offer 63 air routes, including international services to Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Cambodia.
