At the forum, the Vietnamese Ambassador briefed the participants on Vietnam today and its achievements in the industrialization and modernization process. He affirmed that as a gateway to the region, Ecuadorian goods exported to Vietnam can penetrate other ASEAN countries with population of 620 million people. On the other hand, Vietnamese products shipped to Ecuador will have a chance to enter other Latin American nations whose combined populations match that of ASEAN countries.

Mr Son added that the Government of Ecuador’s decision to open its embassy in Hanoi, its efforts to accelerate the signing of more bilateral cooperation documents and its membership of the Pacific Alliance demonstrate its desire to increase trade with Southeast Asia and the Asian market in general.

For his part, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Quito Patricio Alarcón Proaño said the forum marks an important event in the bilateral economic ties between the two countries. He highly appreciated Vietnam’s economic achievements in recent times, adding that the country's experiences are examples for Ecuador to follow such as opening its market, attracting foreign investment, improving its competitive capacity and expanding economic and trade ties with major partners through bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements while maintaining political stability and promoting sustainable socio-economic development on the domestic front.

During the forum, more than 90 businesses in Quito introduced a wide range of potential export products from Vietnam, such as food, equipment for agriculture and fisheries, and garments. Meanwhile many Ecuadorian businesses expressed their desire to attend a Vietnam - Latin America Business and Investment Forum organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade which will take place in mid-November.

Ecuador will host an economic and trade forum between Ecuador and other Asian countries in February 2019 and have invited Vietnamese businesses to take part.
