AsemconnectVietnam - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has highlighted the Vietnam visit by Czech President Milos Zeman as a contribution to traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.

At a reception for President Zeman on June 7 in Hanoi, the Party chief praised the outcomes of talks between the two Presidents and suggested that both sides continue delegation exchanges and boost cooperation between ministries, sectors, localities, and businesses to implement their signed agreements.

He thanked the Czech government for offering favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and work in the Czech Republic, so as to help forge closer ties between two countries.

President Zeman hailed  the outcomes of the talks between the Czech President and his Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quang, saying that the two countries’ relations are growing steadily.

He said the Czech Republic will work to accelerate the implementation of the signed agreements between the two countries in economics, trade, culture, education, science, and sports, making the Vietnam-Czech Republic relations more efficient and substantive.
The visiting President also wished the Vietnamese people even greater achievements in reforms to build an affluent and strong Vietnam.
Meeting with President Zeman the same day, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said Vietnam always values the development of ties with traditional friends in the Central and Eastern Europe, with the Czech Republic being one of the priority partners.
She said she hopes that the two countries will continue to boost cooperation and mutual support at regional and global forums, particularly at the United Nations, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), and the ASEAN-EU.

The top legislator also hoped that the recent signing of numerous memoranda of understanding on cooperation will push forward bilateral trade and investment.

Vietnam is ready to offer all possible support to Czech businesses to do long-term business in the country, particularly in fields of Vietnam’s demand, she stated, adding that the regular exchange of delegations from the two law-making bodes will make important contributions to developing bilateral ties.

Zeman assured that his nation will continue supporting the comprehensive cooperation partnership between Vietnam and the European Union and hasten the EU’s signing and adoption of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement. He also informed his host that during talks with President Tran Dai Quang, both sides expressed wish to open direct flights linking the two nations and agreed to assign ministries and agencies concerned to launch negotiations on the issue.

Host and guest expressed delight that a treaty on the transfer of sentenced persons and an agreement on combating crime have been signed during the visit.

Regarding the East Sea issue, they underlined the necessity of settling disputes by peaceful means, including diplomatic and legal processes, in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
