Generating momentum for Vietnam-US relations

AsemconnectVietnam - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has arrived in Hanoi, successfully concluding his official visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

Phuc’s first visit to the US as Vietnam’s Prime Minister and the first meeting between a new senior Vietnamese leader with President Trump has created momentum to elevate Vietnam-US relations to a new level.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is the first leader of a Southeast Asian country to visit President Donald Trump.
Exceptional results
During the visit, Vietnam and the US vowed to boost bilateral cooperation and reach consensus on a new framework for their comprehensive partnership.
The two countries agreed to build trust and seek new momentum for cooperation, and signed cooperative projects worth billions of USD. Prime Minister Phuc and President Trump agreed to join efforts to boost their economic partnership, emphasizing that development cooperation remains a focus of their relationship. 
President Trump said the Vietnamese and American economies complement each other, rather than compete. The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in other areas – humanitarian aid, war recovery, people-to-people exchanges, science and technology, education and training, health care, and defense and security.
New points in Vietnam-US Joint Statement
The principal outcomes of Prime Minister Phuc’s US visit were presented in a Joint Statement which reflected the aspirations of the two countries and their mutual respect. The Statement covered such cooperative areas as intelligence, cybercrime, and US-ASEAN relations.
The visit reflects the new importance of Asia-Pacific to US foreign policy, in which Vietnam is considered an important regional partner. It affirmed Vietnam’s view that whether the US President is a Democratic or a Republican, the Vietnam-US relationship remains vital to both countries.
Vietnam’s message during the visit
Prime Minister Phuc’s visit to the US affirmed that Vietnam is a reliable partner who wants to strengthen relations with the US.
At meetings with businesspeople, Mr. Phuc delivered the message that Vietnam has reformed its business environment and opened its markets. He told Americans that Vietnam is a safe destination full of hospitable, dynamic people.
He affirmed that the Vietnamese government considers overseas Vietnamese an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation and urged them to participate in Vietnam’s national construction.
Through the visit, Vietnam delivered to the world the message that Vietnam-US relations benefit both countries and contribute to world peace, stability, and prosperity.
Prime Minister Phuc’s visit to UN headquarters and a celebration of Vietnam’s 40 years of UN membership confirmed Vietnam’s active and responsible role on the world stage.
