Vietnam desires to deepen strategic partnership with Japan
Monday, June 5,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has expressed his hope to deepen the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in the region.
Speaking to reporters prior to his official visit to Japan from June 4-8, the Prime Minister reiterated his wish to build a closer ties with Japan and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation to double bilateral investment and trade value by 2020.
In an article titled “ Vietnam remains committed to TPP, says the Vietnamese Prime Minister”, the Nikkei newspaper quoted Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc as saying that the trade deal is crucial to connecting and developing the economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
PM Phuc expressed openness Friday to the so-called TPP-11, a proposed version of the trade bloc that excludes the US. Prime Minister Phuc praised Japan's efforts in devising a new plan.
According to the Jiji news agency, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said despite the US withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Vietnam will keep working with other TPP partners, such as Japan, to help the multilateral free trade pact take effect at an early date. Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the East Sea issue should be resolved in peaceful ways.
In its website, the NHK reported on June 3 that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised countries including Japan for demonstrating its responsibility for and contributions to ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation in the East Sea.
The PM's Japan visit aims to affirm that Vietnam sticks importance to enhancing and deepening the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries in a multitude of fields, and enhancing economic-trade and investment ties at central and local levels.
