Malaysia, Vietnam boast huge potential for broader cooperation
Wednesday, March 8,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi highlighted great potential for cooperation with Vietnam at a March 7 reception in Kuala Lumpur for outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Pham Cao Phong.
The Malaysian Deputy PM said he expects the first meeting of a joint working group on anti-transnational crime between Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security and Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs with the aim of realizing the cooperation agreement on anti-transnational crime signed in 2015.
He also praised the growing ties in recent times and hoped for closer coordination between his country and Vietnam in combating transnational crimes like human trafficking and piracy.
He affirmed the Malaysian Government's willingness to work with Vietnam on providing vocational training for Vietnamese workers before they are dispatched to Malaysia, adding that his country always welcome skilled workers from Vietnam.
Concerning the fishermen issue,the Malaysian Government will continue addressing issues related to Vietnamese fishermen, who were arrested for their illegal fishing in Malaysia’s territorial waters, in the spirit of humanity.
Malaysia acknowledges the possibility of stepping up fishery cooperation between the two nations in the time ahead, he told his guest.
For his part, Phong pledged to continue making contributions to promoting the relations between Vietnam and Malaysia and expressed his hope that bilateral ties will grow and flourish in the future.
