VN sees Russia as priority partner in military technical cooperation

AsemconnectVietnam - Viet Nam always considers Russia its priority partner in military technical cooperation and wishes to continue strengthening security and defence ties with the Eurasian country, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has said.

 The Government leader made the remark at a reception for visiting Chairwoman of Russia’s Federal Council Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko in Ha Noi on February 21, during which he called for Russia’s active participation in big energy and infrastructure projects in Viet Nam.

The PM expressed his pleasure at the growing special relations and political trust between Viet Nam and Russia, which are increasingly being strengthened via high-level exchanges, as well as the fine developments of ties between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Russian Federal Assembly.

He welcomed the collaboration between the two Foreign Ministries in agreeing on the contents and effectively implementing the list of priority tasks for 2017, seeking to boost bilateral relations in a more practical, effective and comprehensive fashion.

In that spirit, PM Phuc urged both sides’ authorized agencies to work closely together and effectively implement the Viet Nam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement, aiming to create breakthroughs towards achieving the goal of US$10 billion in two-way trade by 2020.

He called for the Russian parliament’s support to accelerate the signing of a bilateral agreement on food safety control aiming to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to export farming and fisheries products to the Russian market.

The host expressed his wish that Russia’s parliament and relevant agencies and localities support the implementation of Viet Nam’s light industrial park project and TH True Milk investment projects, as well as the business operation of Vietnamese companies in Russia as a whole.

He also thanked and asked the Russian side to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Russia to live and do stable, legal and long-term business in the country.

For her part, Chairwoman of Russia’s Federal Council Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko congratulated the Vietnamese Government and people on the country’s significant socio-economic and foreign affair achievements over the past years, affirming that her current visit to Viet Nam aims to tighten cooperative relations with the Vietnamese NA and people in the spirit of comprehensive strategic partnership.

She recommended both sides strengthen cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy and diversify economic and trade cooperation, seeking to tap fully into and take good advantage of the Viet Nam-Eurasian Economic Union FTA.

Russia wishes to foster ties with Viet Nam in the fields of Russia’s strength, including oil refinery, petrochemicals and liquefied petroleum gas, Matvienko said, adding that the two sides could also promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture and agricultural commodity exchange.

She asked the Vietnamese Government to create favorable conditions for Russia’s investment projects in Viet Nam, thereby contributing to facilitating relations between the two countries in a more practical and effective fashion.
