Timor Leste firms welcomed in VN: PM

Viet Nam will create best possible conditions for enterprises from Timor Leste to operate in the country, affirmed PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

He made the statement when receiving newly appointed Timor Leste Ambassador to Viet Nam Pascoela Barreto dos Santos in Ha Noi on February 20.

He said he expects the country to speed up the groundwork for its free trade agreement with Viet Nam to soon come into effect. 

PM hopes for Morocco’s enhanced cooperation with VN

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his hope that Morocco will expand multifaceted cooperation with ASEAN, including Viet Nam.

Receiving newly appointed Moroccan Ambassador to Viet Nam Azzeddiine Farhane in Ha Noi on February 20, the Government leader spoke highly of Morocco’s socio-economic development achievements, especially in tourism and renewable energy.

He suggested the two countries boost economic cooperation to improve their trade, increase exchanges of all-level delegations and maintain close coordination at regional and international forums.

NASC opens seventh meeting

The National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) convened the seventh meeting on February 20 in Ha Noi.

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan reported that the two-day meeting will comment on two bills on criminal code and irrigation.

APEC 2017: anti-illegal logging group convenes session

APEC’s Expert Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade (EGILAT) opened their meeting on February 20, as part of the first Senior Officials’ Meeting of APEC (SOM-1).

The session focused on finding measures to boost links within the Asia-Pacific in a bid to protect forest resources, prevent illegal logging and enhance capacity of APEC member economies in legal timber trade.

Participants discussed ways to improve connections between producers and consumers as well as between small-scale forest growers and wood processing companies to ensure that only legal timber is allowed to be exported.

VN attends ASEAN SOM in Philippines

A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung, head of Viet Nam ASEAN SOM, attended the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (ASEAN SOM) in Boracay, the Philippines to prepare contents for the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat.

The delegates agreed on some contents that will be submitted to the Retreat on February 21, including the world and regional situation, the implementation of the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits’ outcomes, and the main priorities of ASEAN in 2017 and its external relations.

Speaking at the event, Dung said Viet Nam will closely cooperate with other ASEAN member countries during 2017, when the bloc celebrates its 50th founding anniversary.

VN verifies information on VN passport holder held in Malaysia

Viet Nam is working to verify information about a suspect carrying a Vietnamese passport in the name of Doan Thi Huong arrested in Malaysia, said the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Department on February 20.

According to the agency, right after getting information about the case, the Foreign Ministry has directed the Viet Nam Embassy in Malaysia to promptly work with local relevant bodies to clarify related information.

Meanwhile, relevant agencies in Vietnam are also closely working on the case.

Da Nang promotes APEC Viet Nam 2017

The central city of Da Nang, which will host APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November 2017, has worked to promote the event and the beauty of its landscapes and people.

The city’s streets were decorated with banners with information and the logo of APEC 2017.

The Department of Tourism has worked with travel agencies to organize a program to promote Da Nang’s tourism, providing information on the city’s events and new tourism products.

Over 580 delegates join APEC activities in Khanh Hoa

More than 580 delegates from APEC member economies attended activities and events on various fields within the first APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in the southern province of Khanh Hoa’s Nha Trang city on February 20.

The events including activities of eight working groups and sub-committees, including the APEC Human Resource Development Working Group (HRDWG), Business Mobility Group (BMG), Anti-Corruption and Transparency Experts’ Working Group (ACTWG), Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC), and Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP)./.
