VN, Uzbekistan spur cooperative ties
State President Tran Dai Quang called upon Viet Nam and Uzbekistan to cement and deepen political relations on the basis of traditional friendship and fine cooperation.
The State President made the remark on February 9 in Ha Noi while receiving Uzbekistan’s Deputy PM and Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Mirzaev Zoyir who was on a working visit to Viet Nam.
Viet Nam always attached importance to cementing and deepening cooperation with Uzbekistan, said State President Quang, hoping that the visit would generate  impetus to spur the bilateral ties in all fields.
In reply, Deputy PM Mirzaev Zoyir said the ongoing visit of the Uzbekistani delegation is intended to study Viet Nam’s experience in socio-economic development.
Uzbekistan wants to enhance cooperation with Viet Nam in politics, economics, trade and investment, specifically in cultivation, processing and exporting farm produce, footwear and apparel products, he added.
Intergovernmental Committee meeting boosts VN-Laos relations
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Lao counterpart Thongloun Sisoulith co-chaired the 39th meeting of the Viet Nam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee in Ha Noi on February 8 to discuss ways to cement and deepen the bilateral ties.
PM Phuc warmly welcomed his Lao counterpart and the high-ranking government delegation, the first foreign visitors to Viet Nam at the beginning of the Lunar New Year. 
“Viet Nam and Laos enjoy a unique relations in the world,” said Mr. Phuc, adding that Viet Nam always spares no effort to support the neighboring country in national development and joint coordination at international and regional forums.  
PM calls for effective local-to-local cooperation with China
The Vietnamese Party, State and Government always attach importance to the effective and realistic cooperation with Chinese localities, including the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made that statement at his reception for Secretary of the Party Committee of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Peng Qing Hua on February 10 in Ha Long City in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
He urged the two sides’ localities to strengthen friendship, continue exchanges and contacts between leaders at all levels, and enhance people-to-people exchanges to effectively contribute to the Viet Nam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
NA Standing Committee announces three Resolutions
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly has approved three Resolutions at its sixth session.
Resolution No. 333/2017/UBTVQH14 dated January 11, 2017 regulates the coordination between the Supreme People's Court and the Ministry of Defense in monitoring the organization of military courts.
Resolution No. 334/2017/UBTVQH14 dated January 11, 2017 defines the implementation of supervision activities of the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the Ethnic Council, the Committees of the National Assembly and National Assembly delegates.
Resolution No. 343/2017/UBTVQH14 dated January 19, 2017 stipulates the establishment, supervision and decision of the five-year national financial plan, the five-year national middle-term public investment project, the three-year national State budget-finance plan, State budget estimates, Central budget allocation plan and approval of the annual State budget settlement.
Gov’t releases regular meeting resolution
Promotion of business start-up and removal of business and production difficulties topped the key directions adopted by the Government during its January meeting.
The Cabinet recently released Resolution 23/ND-CP on the Government’s regular meeting for January.
Accordingly, the Government tasked ministries, agencies, and localities to actively propose measures in line with new circumstances; accelerate equitization, withdrawal of State capital from non-core business, and operation of SOEs.
Chinese bank branch on VN’s Phu Lam island is illegal: Spokesman
A Chinese bank branch established in the so-called Sansa city on Phu Lam island in Viet Nam’s Hoang Sa archipelago is illegal, stated Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh.
He chaired the ministry’s regular press conference in Hanoi on February 9 and responded to some queries, including the one on Vietnam’s reaction to a Chinese bank setting up a branch in the so-called Sansa city.
“We have repeatedly affirmed that Viet Nam has indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes. Therefore, every activity carried out by foreign countries in this area, if there is, without Vietnam’s permission is illegal and does not change the fact that Viet Nam has full sovereignty over the area,” Binh said.
HCM City among 50 world’s most beautiful cities
The globally famous travel website Con de Nast Traveler has listed Ho Chi Minh City among the 50 most beautiful cities in the world.
CN Traveler bases itself on many criteria through art and architecture, from water views and mountain highs, to people and history.  
The beauty of HCM City is in its contrasts, as new office towers sparkle alongside ornate temples and stone citadels, it stated.
