Vietnam, WEF discuss infrastructure development
Friday, November 17,2017AsemconnectVietnam - The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) held a workshop in Hanoi on November 16 to discuss cooperation in infrastructure development between the Vietnamese Government and the World Economic Forum (WEF).
MoPI Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hieu said the ministry hopes to get useful recommendations at the workshop to help Vietnam complete its legal framework to improve the investment environment for infrastructure.
Alex Wong, Head of Global Challenge Partnerships & Member of the Executive Committee WEF, said that according to the Asian Development Bank, Vietnam needs an investment capital of hundreds of billions of USDs from now to 2030.
During the process of becoming a middle income nation, Vietnam will find it very difficult to utilize public sources, in which two thirds of that must come from the private sector, and PPP will bring about great benefits.
First of all, private businesses and scholars should frankly discuss the challenges hindering PPP in Vietnam. International and regional experiences will help form an action program to resolve infrastructure issues in Vietnam, said Mr. Wong.
