Indexes down for 5th day in succession

AsemconnectVietnam - Low liquidity seen as markets lose futher ground on October 26.

All main indexes on both stock markets fell on October 26, for the fifth day in a row.

On HSX the VN Index lost 2.57 points (0.38 per cent) and the VN30-Index 3.1 points (0.48 per cent) while on HNX the HNX-Index closed down 0.56 points (0.67 per cent) and the HNX30-Index 1.8 points (1.19 per cent). The VNAll-Index also closed down, by 11.45 points (1.15 per cent).

The UPCoM Index shed 0.02 points (0.04 per cent).

HSX saw 102 shares increasing and 127 decreasing while HNX saw 102 increasing and 126 decreasing.

Liquidity on HNX was VND316 billion ($14.15 million), 14.5 per cent lower than yesterday, and on HSX was VND1.40 trillion ($62.69 million), down 23 per cent.

The VN Index opened at 676.18 points then fell early on to 673.9 points before recovering to 675.5 points. It then fluctuated until late in the morning session before losing ground and closing at 673.5 points. In the afternoon it tumbled from the outset, hitting its bottom of the day of 670.8 points in the middle of the session then recovering at 674.7 points before easing to 673.61 points at the close.

The VNMid-Index was the only sub-index to increase, by 1.76 points (0.21 per cent), while the VNSML-Index lost 2.65 points (0.33 per cent) and the VN100-Index 1.82 points (0.29 per cent).

VNM spent most of the day in positive territory but lost most of its gains late on and closed just 0.1 per cent higher, on poor trading value of VND57 billion ($2.55 million). It still stood out from other large caps, however, most of which fell.

In banking, CTG lost 1.5 per cent, VCB 1.26 per cent, BID 1.2 per cent, STB 0.9 per cent and MBB 0.4 per cent, while EIB closed at its opening price.

In energy, GAS closed down 0.9 per cent, CNG rose 0.8 per cent, and PGD closed at its opening price.

BVH, VIC, MSN, FPT and HPG lost 1.2 per cent, 0.6 per cent, 0.5 per cent, 0.5 per cent and 0.1 per cent, respectively.

Poor liquidity was emphasized by ROS recording the highest trade on HSX with just VND111 billion ($4.97 million) changing hands, with its share price rising 2.5 per cent. HPG followed with trade of VND100 billion ($4.47 million).

Among large caps on HNX, SHB lost 3.6 per cent, PVS 2.5 per cent, NTP 0.8 per cent, VCG 0.6 per cent, ACB 0.5 per cent and PVI 0.4 per cent. VCS increased 0.2 per cent while PHP and HUT closed at their opening price.

Foreign investors net bought on HSX by VND10.4 billion ($465,712 million) and on HNX by VND9 billion ($403,020).
