Southern region's rice output may hit 28 mln tons in 2015
Thursday, October 23,2014AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's southern region, incorporating the Mekong Delta food basket, is projected to produce 28 million tonnes of rice paddy in 2015, up slightly from the 27.8 million tonnes estimated for this year, according to the agriculture ministry's Crops Department, the Vietnam Economic Times newspaper reports.
The region's output this year is expected to increase more than 3 percent from 2013 due to higher yields, even though its planting area has decreased, the report said.
Vietnam is the world's second-biggest rice exporter after India.
