Pepper exports increased sharply in 7 months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s export of pepper was estimated at 9,000 tons valued at US$ 74 million in July and 119,000 tons worth of $ 862 million in the first seven months of this year, increased by nearly 29 per cent in volume and 42 per cent in value over the same period of 2013, according to Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA).

The average pepper export price in the first six months of this year was at $ 7,156 per ton, up by nearly 9 per cent year – on – year.

The country’s export of pepper to the 4 biggest markets saw sharp increase in the first six months of this year. The export to the U.S increased by over 29 per cent in volume and 38 per cent in value; that to the United Arab Emirates – up by 56 per cent in volume and 80 per cent in value. Especially the export to Singapore increased by over 2 folds in volume and nearly 3 folds in value; that to India – up by over 2 folds both in volume and in value year – on – year.

According to VPA, Vietnam’s pepper export may reach $ 1 billion this year and the country still remains the world biggest pepper exporter.
