In the reviewed period, the country’s exports of coal increased by 4.5 folds; iron and steel of all kinds – up by 61.9 per cent; rubber – up by 61.6 per cent; fertilizer of all kinds – up by 51.1 per cent; computers, electronics and components – up by 46.7 per cent over the same period last year. Meanwhile, the exports of precious stones, metals and products decreased by 47.3 per cent; pepper – down by 16.1 per cent; cassava and products – down by 14.1 per cent.

The leading items were:

Vietnam’s total exports of computers, electronics and components; and cell phones and accessories reached nearly US$ 6 billion in May and $ 25.66 billion in the first five months of this year, up by 24 per cent over the same period of 2016.

The main export markets of computers, electronic products and components; and cell phones and accessories in the period were EU with $ 6.57 billion, up by 11.4 per cent year – on – year; the U.S - $ 2.89 billion, up by 1.6 per cent; China - $ 2.69 billion, up by 85.8 per cent; and South Korea - $ 2.14 billion, up by 39 per cent.

Textiles and garments: The country exported $ 1.93 billion worth of textiles and garments in May and $ 9.39 billion in the first 5 months of this year, up by 9.1 per cent year – on - year.

The leading export markets of textiles and garments in the first 5 months of this year were the U.S with $ 4.58 billion, up by 6.9 per cent year – on – year; EU (28 countries) - $ 1.3 billion, up by 4.9 per cent; and Japan - $ 1.14 billion, up by 10.3 per cent.

Footwear of all kinds: The export of footwear of all kinds totaled $ 1.38 billion in May and $ 5.65 billion in the first 5 months of this year, up by 12 per cent year – on - year.

The country’s top export markets of footwear of all kinds in the first 5 months of this year were the U.S with $ 1.99 billion, up by 13.2 per cent year – on – year; EU (28 countries) –$ 1.8 billion, up by 8.7 per cent; and China – $ 418 million, up by 29.1 per cent.

Machines, equipment and spare parts: The country’s exports of machines, equipment and spare parts reached $ 1.2 billion in May, up by 7.1 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total exports of machines, equipment and spare parts in the first five months of this year to $ 5.05 billion, up by 36.3 per cent year – on – year.

The major export markets of machines, equipment and spare parts in the first five months of this year were the U.S with $ 1.02 billion, up by 29.7 per cent; Japan - $ 684 million, up by 15.9 per cent; South Korea - $ 402 million, up by 66.7 per cent; and China - $ 672 million, up by 84.5 per cent.

Seafood: The country’s export of seafood hit nearly $ 710 million in May, up by 10.2 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of seafood in the first 5 months of this year to $ 2.85 billion, up by 13.8 per cent year – on - year.

By the end of May, the country’s export of seafood to the U.S reached $ 483 million, down by 6.7 per cent; to EU (28 countries) – 460 million, up by 4.2 per cent; to Japan – $ 474 million, up by 32.2 per cent; and to China - $ 338 million, up by 38.1 per cent over the same period last year.

Fruit and vegetables: Vietnam exported $ 375 million worth of fruit and vegetables in May and nearly $ 1.4 billion in the first five months of this year, up by 41.4 per cent over the same period of 2016.

China was leading the list of the country’s fruit and vegetable export markets in the first five months of this year with the export turnover of $ 1.06 billion, up by 51 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 75 per cent of the total.
