Exports to U.S reached 4.76 billion USD in first month of 2020
Tuesday, February 25,2020AsemconnectVietnam - In 2020, Vietnam and the US celebrated 25 years of establishing diplomatic relations, marking the bilateral cooperation journey in all aspects, especially in the field of economics.
The bilateral trade turnover between the two countries has now reached over 60 billion USD.
The US is still Vietnam's largest export market with a turnover of 4.76 billion USD in January of 2020. However, because it was the first month of the year, the turnover decreased slightly by 17.11 per cent over the previous month and by 7.47 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Vietnam exported a lot of goods to the US market, of which the main export item was textiles and garments, accounting for 25.58 per cent of the total market share, reaching 1.21 billion USD, down by 23.38 per cent over the same period last year. The next were the two commodity groups with export turnover of over 500 million USD, including: Computers, electronic products and components, accounting for 12.39 per cent of market share reaching 590.68 million USD, although decreasing by 13.14 per cent compared to with the previous month but growing strongly by 97.4 per cent over the same period last year; footwear of all kinds reached 507.39 million USD, accounting for 10.65 per cent of the market share, down by 18.19 per cent compared to January of 2019.
There were 5 other commodity groups with export turnover of hundreds of USD, but only the group of machines, equipment, and other spare parts with turnover increased by 24.98 per cent over the same period last year and reached 499.7 million USD, when the rest of the groups saw decrease in export turnover.
Vietnam and the United States also coordinate closely on multilateral forums, such as APEC, ASEAN, ARF, etc. for peace, stability, cooperation and development of the region. The two sides agreed to strengthen ASEAN-US relations and support ASEAN's central role in the regional structure.
