Vietnam’s seafood exports and imports in first eleven months of 2019

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the figures of the General Department of Customs, in the first 11 months of 2019, Vietnam’s seafood exports decreased slightly over the same period of 2018.

Meanwhile, the country’s imports of seafood increased slightly year – on – year.

Vietnam’s exports of seafood in first 11 months of 2019 and the leading seafood export markets
In the first 11 months of 2019, Vietnam’s seafood export turnover reached over 7.82 billion USD, down by 2.6 per cent compared to the same period of 2018.
According to the figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s seafood export turnover in November of 2019 reached 765.79 million USD, down by 8.4 per cent compared to October of 2019 and down by 8.2 per cent compared to November of 2018. Generally in the first 11 months of 2019, turnover reached over 7.82 billion USD, down by 2.6 per cent over the same period of 2018.

The US ranked first in Vietnam's seafood consumption, accounting for 17.3 per cent of the country's total export turnover of this commodity group, reaching 1.35 billion USD, down by 8.9 per cent over the same period of 2018.
It was followed by the Japanese market with 1.35 billion USD, accounting for 17.3 per cent, up by 6.3 per cent; while the exports to the EU reached 1.15 million USD, accounting for 14.7 per cent, down by 12.8 per cent; to China reached 1.1 billion USD, accounting for 14.1 per cent, up by 21.3 per cent; South Korea reached 712.73 million USD, accounting for 9.1 per cent, down by 9.3 per cent.
Vietnam’s exports of seafood to Southeast Asian markets only accounted for 8 per cent of the country's total seafood export turnover, reaching 625.79 million USD, up by 1.7 per cent.

In the first 11 months of 2019, the country’s seafood export increased sharply in turnover over the same period of 2018 in markets such as Cambodia, up by 82.2 per cent, reaching 42.27 million USD; Ukraine - increased by 42.3 per cent, reaching 23.53 million USD; Turkey - increased by 31.5 per cent, reaching 10.22 million USD; Iraq - increased by 31.1 per cent to 11.75 million USD.
In contrast, the exports dropped sharply in markets such as Saudi Arabia, down by 98.4 per cent to 0.23 million USD; Pakistan - decreased by 54.4 per cent, reaching 11.54 million USD; Israel - decreased by 31.2 per cent, reaching 60.59 million USD; Switzerland - decreased by 30.8 per cent, reaching 20.35 million USD.

Vietnam’s imports of seafood in the first 11 months and the leading seafood import markets
In the first 11 months of 2019, Vietnam’s seafood imports reached 1.61 billion USD, up by 2.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of aquatic products of all kinds to Vietnam increased for 2 consecutive months. In October of 2019 the imports of seafood increased by 9.5 per cent compared to September of 2019 and in November of 2019, the imports of seafood increased by 3.1 per cent compared to October of 2019 to 147.5 million USD.
Generally, in the first 11 months of 2019, the imports of this commodity group reached 1.61 billion USD, up by 2.5 per cent over the same period last year, accounting for 0.7 per cent of the total import turnover of goods of all types of the country.

Norway was leading in the list of the country’s main seafood import markets, accounting for 12.1 per cent of the total seafood import turnover of all kinds of the country, reaching 193.84 million USD, up by 21.8 per cent over the same period last year. In particular, in November of 2019, the figure reached 20.21 million USD, up by 34.7 per cent compared to October of 2019 and up by 35.7 per cent compared to November of 2018.
The imports of seafood from Southeast Asia market accounted for 11.2 per cent, reaching nearly 180.61 million USD, up by 32.8 per cent. In November alone, the imports from this market reached 20.24 million USD, up by 23.9 per cent compared to October of 2019 and sharply increased by 56.6 per cent over the same month last year.
Imported seafood to Vietnam from India reached 179.03 million USD, accounting for 11.1 per cent, down sharply by 44.3 per cent; from China - 125.89 million USD, up by 14.8 per cent over the same period last year; imports from Japan increased by 24.1 per cent to 122.12 million USD; from Indonesia - increased by 24.4 per cent, reaching 106.59 million USD; Russia increased by 16.4 per cent, reaching 94.79 million USD.

The imports of seafood in the first 11 months of 2019 from most markets increased in turnover over the same period in 2018; in which, a strong increase in markets such as from the Philippines - increased by 112.9 per cent, reaching 20.81 million USD; from the US - increased by 42.4 per cent, reaching 82.55 million USD; from Thailand - increased by 40.9 per cent, reaching 27.42 million USD; and from Malaysia increased by 30.3 per cent, reaching 9.06 million USD.
In contrast, seafood import turnover decreased over the same period last year in some markets as follows: Chile - decreased by 4 per cent, reaching 56.54 million USD; Taiwan - decreased by 3.9 per cent, reaching 93.06 million USD; South Korea fell 3.5%, reaching 69.48 million USD.
