Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials fell in first 9 months of 2019

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported 262 million USD worth of animal feed and materials in September of this year, decreased by 29.47 per cent over the previous month and by 31.99 per cent in value over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In September, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached 120 million USD, decreased by 29.31 per cent compared with the previous month and by 18.75 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first 9 months of this year to over 1.1 billion USD, accounted for 40.5 per cent of the total market share.

It was followed by the U.S with over 33 million USD in September, down by 55.62 per cent month – on – month and by 45.27 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first 9 months of this year to over 451 million USD, down by 10.14 per cent year – on – year.

Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from China reached over 13 million USD in September, down by 7.09 per cent month – on – month and by 8.5 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from China in the first 8 months of this year reached over 140 million USD, decreased by 18.99 per cent year – on – year. 

In the first 9 months of this year, Vietnam spent over 2.8 billion USD on importing animal feed and materials, down by 2.2 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Canada reached 39.5 million USD, increased sharply by 151.3 per cent; from Australia 19.8 million USD, up by 73.36 per cent; from Argentina – over 1.1 billion USD, up by 28.94 per cent; and from the Philippines – over 13.7 million USD, up by 21.25 per cent year – on – year.

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 303,000 tons worth of 70 million USD in September and over 1.8 million tons worth of over 494 million USD in the first 9 months of this year, decreased by 54.44 per cent in quantity and by 48.72 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
The leading wheat import markets in the first 8 months of this year were Australia with the market share of 41 per cent; Canada – 14 per cent; the U.S – 6 per cent; and Brazil – 5 per cent.

In the first 9 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia decreased by 81.95 per cent in quantity and by 80.87 per cent in value year – on - year, while the imports from the U.S decreased by 26.91 per cent in quantity and 25.89 per cent in value; and from Australia – down by 20.57 per cent in quantity and 16.03 per cent in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Canada decreased by 4.36 per cent in quantity and 1.97 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.

However, the imports from Brazil increased by 9.17 per cent in quantity and 38.81 per cent in value over the same period last year. 
Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 199,000 tons worth of over 79 million USD in September and over 1.3 million tons worth of 526 million USD in the first 9 months of this year, increased by 0.16 per cent in volume and decreased by 8.4 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
 

Corn:
 The imports of corn reached over 1.6 million tons worth of 321 million USD in September and over 8.1 million tons worth of over 1.6 billion USD in the first 9months of this year, increased by 12.45 per cent in quantity and by 10.69 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
 
Argentina and Brazil were the leading corn import markets of Vietnam in the first 9 months of this year with 63 per cent and 35 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
