Exports of cashew nuts decreased in first four months

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, in the first 4 months of 2019, Vietnam’s exports of cashew nuts to foreign markets increased by 8.2 per cent in volume but decreased by 14.6 per cent in turnover over the same period last year, reaching 115,101 tons worth of 910.49 million USD.

The average export price decreased by 21 per cent to 7,910.4 USD per ton.
Particularly, in April 2019, the country’s exports of cashew nuts reached 35,679 tons worth of 271.19 million USD, increased by 11.6 per cent in volume and 8.4 per cent in turnover over the previous month and also increased by 10.9 per cent in volume, but decreased by 12.6 per cent in turnover compared to the same month last year. The cashew nut export in April of 2019 decreased slightly by 2.9 per cent compared to March 2019, reaching 7,600.8 USD per ton and also down by 21.2 per cent compared to the same month of 2018.

The top 3 leading cashew export markets of Vietnam in the first four months of this year were the US, China and the Netherlands; of which the exports to the US reached 36,996 tons, equivalent to 294.63 million USD, down by 4.1 per cent in volume and 24.1 per cent in turnover over the same period last year, accounting for over 32 per cent of the total volume and total turnover of cashew nut exports of the whole country. The export price to the US decreased by 20.9 per cent, reaching an average of 7,963.7 USD per ton.

Meanwhile, the exports to China reached 14,612 tons, equivalent to 116.88 million USD, accounting for nearly 13 per cent of the total volume and total turnover, increasing by 16.4 per cent in volume but decreasing by 4.9 per cent in turnover and the export price was down by 18.3 per cent, reaching 7,998.7 USD per ton.
The exports of cashew nuts to the Netherlands decreased by 21.1 per cent in volume and 38.7 per cent in turnover over the same period last year, reaching 10,432 tons, equivalent to 87.39 million USD, accounting for over 9 per cent of the total volume and total cashew export turnover of the whole country.

The total exports of cashew nuts in the first 4 months of this year to the majority of markets decreased compared to the same period last year; in which, there was a sharp decrease in the following markets: U.A.E  - decreased by 434 per cent in volume and 52.1 per cent in turnover, reaching 626 tons, equivalent to 4.35 million USD; to Norway - decreased by 36.3 per cent in volume and 51.8 per cent in turnover, reaching 299 tons, equivalent to 2.33 million USD; to South Africa decreased by 25.6 per cent in volume and 50.9 per cent in turnover, reaching 238 tons, equivalent to 1.7 million USD.

However, the exports to several other markets, though the export volume is not high but compared with the same period, increased very strongly such as: to Belgium - increased by 112.7 per cent in volume and 82.2 per cent in turnover, reaching 1,412 tons, equivalent to 12,88 million USD; to Ukraine - increased by 68.4 per cent in volume and 36.6 per cent in turnover, reaching 330 tons, equivalent to 2.59 million USD; to Spain - increased by 74 per cent in volume and 35.3 per cent in turnover, reaching 1,998 tons, equivalent to 15.8 million USD.
