Imports of animal feed and materials increased sharply in 11 months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported US$319 million worth of animal feed and materials in November, decreased by 4.19 per cent over the previous month and but up by 23.19 per cent in value over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In November, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached $137 million, increased by 13.97 per cent compared with the previous month and by 64.5 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first 11 months of this year to over $1.1 billion, accounted for 32.3 per cent of the total market share.

It was followed by the U.S with over $57 million in November, down by 10.67 per cent month – on – month and by 48.86 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first 11 months of this year to over $624 million, up by 166.37 per cent year – on – year.

Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from India reached over $24 million in November, up by 92.18 per cent month – on – month and by 41.55 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from India in the first 11 months of this year reached over $176 million, increased by 35.57 per cent year – on – year. 

In the first 11 months of this year, Vietnam spent over $3.5 billion on importing animal feed and materials, up by 18.62 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil reached $424 million, increased sharply by 213.8 per cent; from the U.S - $624 million, up by 166.37 per cent; from Chile - $24 million, up by 157.97 per cent; nd from Mexico – over $3.8 million, up by  77.97 per cent year – on – year.

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 136,000 tons worth of $32 million in November and over 4.7 million tons worth of $1.1 billion in the first 11 months of this year, increased by 10.31 per cent in quantity and by 23.61 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
The leading wheat import markets in the first 11 months of this year were Russia with the market share of 55 per cent; Australia – 23 per cent; Canada – 7 per cent; the U.S – 6 per cent and Brazil – 1 per cent of the total.
In the first 11 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia increased by over 6 times in quantity and over 7 times in value, while the imports from the U.S increased by over 6 times, both in quantity and in value.
Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 256,000 tons worth of over $101 million in November and over 1.7 million tons worth of $728 million in the first 11 months of this year, increased by 15.98 per cent in quantity and by 15.1 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Corn: The imports of corn reached over 955,000 tons worth of $203 million in November and over 9.1 million tons worth of $1.9 billion in the first 11 months of this year, increased by 26.31 per cent in quantity and 34.79 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading soybean import markets of Vietnam in the first 11 months of this year with 50 per cent and 18 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
Especially, in the first 11 months of this year, the imports of corn from Thailand decreased sharply, both in quantity and in value compared with the same period last year.
