Imports of animal feed and materials increased over 18% in ten months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported US$332 million worth of animal feed and materials in October, decreased by 13.85 per cent over the previous month and but up by 32.56 per cent over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In October, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached $120 million, decreased sharply by 18.75 per cent compared with the previous month and by 5.23 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first ten months of this year to over $1 billion, accounted for 31.3 per cent of the total market share.

It was followed by the U.S with over $64 million in October, up by 5.48 per cent month – on – month and by 651.14 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first ten months of this year to over $566 million, up by 189.63 per cent year – on – year.

Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from Brazil reached over $33 million in October, up by 46.59 per cent month – on – month and by 698.43 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from China in the first ten months of this year reached over $421 million, increased by 288.72 per cent year – on – year. 

In the first ten months of this year, Vietnam spent over $3.2 billion on importing animal feed and materials, up by 18.19 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil reached $421 million, increased by 388.72 per cent; from the U.S - $566 million, up by 189.63 per cent; from Canada – over $23 million, up by 153.1 per cent; and from Belgium – over $22 million, up by 88.8 per cent year – on – year.

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 605,000 tons worth of $147 million in October and over 4.6 million tons worth of $1.1 billion in the first 10 months of this year, increased by 15 per cent in quantity and by 29.33 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
The leading wheat import markets in the first 10 months of this year were Russia with the market share of 56 per cent; Australia – 24 per cent; Canada – 8 per cent; the U.S – 5 per cent and Brazil – 2 per cent of the total.

In the first 10 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia increased by over 9 times in quantity and over 10 times in value, while the imports from the U.S increased by over 13 times in quantity and over 12 times in value.

Soybean: 
Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 125,000 tons worth of over $51 million in October and over 1.4 million tons worth of $626 million in the first 10 months of this year, increased by 5.42 per cent in quantity and increased by 6.01 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.

Corn:
 The imports of corn reached over 971,000 tons worth of $208 million in October and over 8.1 million tons worth of $1.7 billion in the first 10 months of this year, increased by 27.72 per cent in quantity and 35.4 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017. Argentina and Brazil were the leading soybean import markets of Vietnam in the first 10 months of this year with 50 per cent and 16 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
Especially, in the first 10 months of this year, the imports of corn from Thailand decreased sharply, both in quantity and in value compared with the same period last year.
