Leading export markets of Vietnam in first nine months

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first nine months of this year, the U.S and China were the leading export markets of Vietnam.

The U.S ranked first with the export turnover of over US$35 billion, increased of over 13 per cent over the same period last year, and China ranked second with the export turnover of nearly $29 billion.

Exports to the U.S saw growth
Vietnam’s exports of goods to the U.S reached US$35.02 billion in the first nine months of this year, up by 13.02 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In the period, the U.S was still the biggest export market of Vietnam.
Textiles and garments were leading the list of items exported by the country to the U.S in the first nine months of this year with the export turnover of $10.33 billion, up by 11.6 per cent over the same period last year and accounted for nearly 46 per cent of the total.

It was followed by footwear of all kinds with $4.2 billion, up by 13.47 per cent year – on – year; and then telephones and components - $4.1 billion; wood and furniture - $2.73 billion; computers, electronics and components - $2.07 billion; machines, equipment and spare parts - $2.34 billion; and seafood - $1.14 billion.
In the first nine months of this year, Vietnam also imported $9.55 billion worth of goods from the U.S, up by 36.9 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 5.5 per cent of the country’s total import value.

Exports to China increased sharply by nearly 30 per cent
Vietnam exported US$ 28.88 billion worth of goods to China in the first nine months of this year, increased by 29.59 per cent over the same period last year and accounted for 16.4 per cent of the total, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In September only, the country’s exports of goods to China reached $4.45 billion, up by 0.87 per cent over the previous month and by 27.07 per cent over the same month of 2017.

Computers, electronics and components were the leading item exported by the country to China in the first nine months of this year with the export turnover of over $6 billion, up by 28.6 per cent year – on – year.
It was followed by telephones and components with $5.77 billion, up by 2.4 times or 138.6 per cent year – on – year; cameras, camcorders and components - $1.79 billion, up by 49.89 per cent; and machines, equipment and spare parts – over $1 billion, down by 7.64 per cent.

In the first nine months of this year, the country’s exports of fibers of all kinds to China increased by 10.36 per cent to $1.6 billion; textiles and garments – up by 40.39 per cent to $1.07 billion; and footwear of all kinds – up by 28.35 per cent to $1.05 billion.

Especially, the country’s exports of cement and clinker to China rocketed by 77.4 times or 7,639.02 per cent in quantity and 90 times or 8,909.03 per cent in value to 6.5 million tons worth of $235.4 million.
Besides, the exports of plastics to China also increased by 3.5 times in quantity and 3.4 times in value compared with the same period last year to 433,700 tons worth of $350 million.

However, the exports of rice to China decreased by 37.21 per cent in quantity and 27.65 per cent in value; cassava and products – down by 37.17 per cent in quantity and 3.79 per cent in value; cashew nuts – down by 1.26 per cent in quantity and 7.1 per cent in value; rubber – up by 8.62 per cent in quantity but down by 12.53 per cent in value.
