Imports of animal feed and materials increased sharply in nine months
Sunday, October 21,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported US$386 million worth of animal feed and materials in September of this year, increased by 27.93 per cent over the previous month and by 51.71 per cent over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
It was followed by Brazil with over $61 million in September, up by 97.9 per cent month – on – month and by 130.9 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil in the first nine months of this year to over $388 million, up by 272.4 per cent year – on – year.
Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from the U.S reached over $61 million in September, down by 14.2 per cent month – on – month and by 903.7 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first nine months of this year reached over $502 million, increased by 168.45 per cent year – on – year.
In the first nine months of this year, Vietnam spent nearly $2.9 billion on importing animal feed and materials, up by 17.08 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil reached $388 million, increased by 272.43 per cent; from the U.S - $502 million, up by 168.45 per cent; from Chile – over $20 million, up by 152.97 per cent; and from Belgium – over $21 million, up by 121.64 per cent year – on – year.

The leading wheat import markets in the first 9 months of this year were Russia with the market share of 53 per cent; Australia – 25 per cent; Canada – 8 per cent; the U.S – 4 per cent and Brazil – 2 per cent of the total.
In the first 9 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia increased by over 13 times in quantity and over 15 times in value, while the imports from the U.S increased by over 12 times in quantity and over 11 times in value.
Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 185,000 tons worth of over $76 million in September and over 1.3 million tons worth of $574 million in the first 9 months of this year, increased by 3.55 per cent in quantity and 4.43 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Corn: The imports of corn reached over 1.2 million tons worth of $259 million in September and over 7.26 million tons worth of $1.5 billion in the first 9 months of this year, increased by 29.9 per cent in quantity and 36.13 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading soybean import markets of Vietnam in the first 9 months of this year with 48 per cent and 14 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
