Imports of goods from China, South Korea and U.S increased

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s imports of goods from China, South Korea saw growth in the first eight months of this year.

The exports from China were leading with US$41.63 billion. 
Imports from China increased 14 per cent
The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and China totaled US$66.03 billion in the first eight months of this year, increased by 19.5 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Of the figure, Vietnam exported $24.4 billion worth of goods to; and imported $41.63 billion worth of goods from China, increased by 30.3 per cent and 14 per cent, respectively.
So in the first eight months of this year, Vietnam got $17.23 billion of deficit in trade exchange with China, down by 3 per cent year – on – year.

Machines, equipment and spare parts were leading the list of items imported by the country from China in the first eight months of this year with the import value of $7.6 billion, up by over 5 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 18.3 per cent of the total. It was followed by telephones and components - $5.23 billion, up by 13 per cent; computers, electronics and components - $4.73 billion, up by 7.8 per cent; fabrics - $4.63 billion, up by 18.5 per cent; iron and steel - $3.13 billion, up by 8 per cent; textile, garment, leather and footwear materials - $1.43 billion, up by 5.8 per cent; plastic products - $1.34 billion, up by 15.8 per cent; chemicals - $1.04 billion, up by 28 per cent.

In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of cameras, camcorders and components increased sharply by 157.6 per cent to $553.26 million; petroleum – up by 98 per cent to $683.28 million; ordinary metal products – up by 85.6 per cent to $426.84 million; oil and grease – up by 64.6 per cent to $11.24 million; animal feed and materials – up by 57.3 per cent to $158.55 million; fruits and vegetables – up by 56.6 per cent to $250.62 million; coal – up by 53.9 per cent to $197.71 million.

However, the imports of CBU autos from China fell sharply by 91.5 per cent year – on – year to $16.3 million; and the imports of pharmaceuticals; fertilizer; rubber and tobacco materials also increased sharply by 35.2 per cent; 30.4 per cent; 24.9 per cent and 20.3 per cent, respectively year – on – year.

Imports from South Korea increased slightly
Vietnam’s imports of goods from South Korea in the first eight months of this year increased by 3.3 per cent over the same period last year to over US$31.05 billion, accounted for 20.2 per cent of the country’s total import value, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
However, the country’s exports of goods to South Korea in the first eight months of this year increased sharply by 29.5 per cent to $11.93 billion.

Computers, electronics and components were the leading item imported by the country from South Korea in the first eight months of this year with the imports value of $11.35 billion, up by 37.5 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 36.6 per cent of the total.

It was followed by machines, equipment and spare parts with $4.14 billion, down by 46 per cent; and then telephones and components - $3.45 billion, up by 1.4 per cent; fabrics - $1.45 billion, up by 9.2 per cent; petroleum - $1.58 billion, up by 34.9 per cent; plastic products - $1.15 billion, up by 10.2 per cent; ordinary metals - $1.01 billion, up by 5.8 per cent; and plastics - $1.08 billion, up by 15.2 per cent.

In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of gas from South Korea increased sharply by 150.9 per cent to $3.53 million; cameras, camcorders and components – up by 124.8 per cent to $343.82 million; cotton – up by 102.2 per cent to $4.39 million; ores and minerals – up by 82.8 per cent to $10.86 million; fruits and vegetables – up by 93.8 per cent to $14.42 million; pharmaceutical materials – up by 72.3 per cent to $3.78 million.

However, the imports of cars from South Korea fell sharply by 85.9 per cent year – on – year to $17.91 million; machines, equipment and spare parts – down by 46 per cent; means of transport – down by 35.4 per cent; fertilizer – down by 28.7 per cent; and wood and furniture – down by 26.3 per cent.

Imports from U.S increased sharply
The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and the U.S reached US$ 39.48 billion in the first eight months of this year, increased by 17.7 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Of the figure, the country exported over $30.81 billion worth of goods to and imported $8.66 billion worth of goods from the U.S, increased by 12.5 per cent and 40.8 per cent, respectively. So in the first eight months, the country got $22.15 billion of surplus in trade exchange with the U.S, increased slightly by 4.3 per cent over the same period last year.

Computers, electronics and components were leading the list of items imported by the country from the U.S in the first eight months of this year with the import value of $2.05 billion, up by 9.8 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 23.7 per cent of the total.

Cotton ranked second with $1.15 billion, up by 22.5 per cent; and then machines, equipment and spare parts - $643.52 million, up by 6.5 per cent; ordinary metal products - $554.57 million, up by 33.8 times; animal feed and materials - $441.09 million, up by 142.6 per cent; ordinary metals - $339.02 million, up by 52.8 per cent.

The imports of milk and dairy products from the U/S also increased by 99.3 per cent to $78.71 million; iron and steel scraps – up by 89 per cent to $213.03 million; fruit and vegetables – up by 83.5 per cent to $109.32 million; iron and steel of all kinds – up by 78 per cent to $14.95 million.
However, the imports of telephones and components from the U.S decreased sharply by 89.6 per cent to $4.17 million; autos – down by 71.6 per cent; cameras, camcorders and components – down by 70.3 per cent; glass and products – down by 43.3 per cent; and oil products – down by 42.7 per cent.
