India – big trade partner of Vietnam
Monday, September 24,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam is now ranked 12th in the list of over 200 trade partners of Vietnam in the world; and the 9th biggest trade partner of our country in Asia, according to the General Department of Customs.
In the first eight months of this year Vietnam exported US$ 4.5 billion worth of goods to India, increased sharply by 92.13 per cent over the same period last year.
In August only, the country’s exports of goods to India reached $646.96 million, up by 14.97 per cent over the previous month and by 74.05 per cent over the same month of 2017.
Meanwhile, the country’s imports of goods from India reached $372.88 million in August, up by 2.37 per cent over the previous month and by 4.18 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of goods from India in the first eight months of this year to $2.82 billion, up by 8.94 per cent year – on – year.
So the country got $1.73 of surplus in trade exchange with India.
Machines, equipment and spare parts were the leading item exported by Vietnam to India in the first eight months of this year with the export turnover of $1.3 billion, up by 6.41 times or 541.1 per cent over the same period last year.
It was followed by telephones and components with the export turnover of $100.12 million in August and $570.31 million in the first eight months of this year.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of bamboo, rattan, sedge and carpet products to
India rocketed by 15.79 times or 1,479.12 per cent to $3.4 million; plastic products – up by 2.44 times or 144.37 per cent to $26.2 million.
However, the exports of tea to India fell by 63.95 per cent in quantity and 70.95 per cent in value to 553 tons worth of $525,000.
Also in the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of corn from India rocketed by 11.87 times or 10,874.5 per cent in quantity and 19.79 times or 1,879.9 per cent in value over the same period last year; the imports of plastics – up by 2.08 times or 108.76 per cent; and the imports of ordinary metals – up by 2.64 per cent or 164.95 per cent year – on – year.
