Vietnam exported iron and steel mostly to South East Asia
Monday, September 24,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam exported 604,610 tons of iron and steel worth of US$431.03 million in August, increased by 1.1 per cent in quantity and 0.3 per cent in value over the previous month and increased by 37.4 per cent in quantity and 56.7 per cent in value over the same month of last year.
The average iron and steel import price reached $739.9 per ton in the first eight months of this year, up by 12 per cent year – on – year.
The South East Asia was the leading export market of iron and steel of all kinds in the first eight months of this year with 2.33 million tons worth of $1.59 billion, increased sharply by 40.4 per cent in quantity and 59.5 per cent in value over the same period last year. Of the figure, the exports to Cambodia reached 858.981 tons worth of $555.43 million, up by 53.6 per cent in quantity and 82.7 per cent in value; to Malaysia – 437,730 tons worth of $301.84 million, up by 89.6 per cent in quantity and 112.4 per cent in value; to Indonesia – 418,161 tons worth of $332.35 million, up by 19.6 per cent in quantity and 30 per cent in value.
Meanwhile, the exports of iron and steel to the Philippines decreased slightly by 4.2 per cent in quantity but increased by 20.9 per cent in value to 265,432 tons worth of $150.74 million; to Thailand – up by 75.3 per cent in quantity and 64.3 per cent in value to 220,437 tons wroth of $151.73 million.
The exports of iron and steel to the U.S accounted for 15.5 per cent of the total quantity and 17.9 per cent of the total value with 628,058 tons worth of $537.15 million, up by 78.9 per cent in quantity and 92.3 per cent in value over the same period last year.
The exports of iron and steel to the EU increased sharply by 65 per cent in quantity and 79.8 per cent in value over the same period last year to 364,408 tons worth of $297.97 million.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of iron and steel to Japan rocketed by 421.8 per cent in quantity and 237.8 per cent in value to 47,572 tons worth of $38.78 million; and exports to Bangladesh, Italy, Belgium, Russia and Ukraine increased sharply by 100 per cent to 200 per cent.
However, the exports to Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Australia and Spain decreased by 30 per cent to 95 per cent.
