Imports of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical materials saw decrease in February

AsemconnectVietnam - In February of this year, Vietnam’s imports of both pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical materials saw month – on – month decrease.

However, the figure of the first two month was still up slightly as compared to the same period last year.

Imports of pharmaceuticals fell sharply
Vietnam’s imports of medicines fell sharply by 45.3 per cent month – on - month in the February to only US$ 128.3 million, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The figure brought the country’s total imports of medicines in the first two months of this year to $ 362.6 million, down by 4.8 per cent over the same period last year.

Vietnam imported medicines from 26 countries and territories, leading by France with $ 39.5 million, up by 2.27 per cent year – on – year.

Germany followed with $ 35.1 million, down by 31.61 per cent; and then India – down by 19.23 per cent.
In the first two months of this year, the country’s imports of medicines from Taiwan decreased sharply by 77.56 per cent while the imports from Malaysia, Russia and Austria decreased by over 50 per cent.
However, the imports of medicines from Belgium, Japan and Denmark increased sharply by 154.48 per cent; 122.69 per cent and 116 per cent to $ 6.4 million; $ 11.5 million; and $ 5.6 million, respectively.

Imports of pharmaceutical materials fell by over 35 per cent
Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical materials in February of this year decreased sharply by 35.3 per cent compared with the previous month, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The figure brought the country’s total imports of pharmaceutical materials in the first two months of this year to US$ 68.8 million, increased by 19.6 per cent over the same period of 2017.

The leading import markets of pharmaceutical materials in the first two months of this year were India with $ 10.6 million, down by 9.96 per cent year – on – year; Germany - $ 2.9 million, up by 64.07 per cent; and Spain - $ 1.9 million, up by 16.07 per cent.
Especially, in the first two months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical materials from South Korea increased by 334.9 per cent to $ 1.3 million.
