Vietnam’s trade exchange with Asian and African regions in 2017

AsemconnectVietnam - Last year, Vietnam’s trade exchange with the Asian and African countries was estimated at US$ 290.5 billion, increased by 23.96 per cent over the year of 2016 and accounted for 70.45 per cent of the country’s total trade exchange with the countries all over the world.

In 2017, the country’s exports of goods to the Asian and African countries were estimated at $ 116.81 billion, increased by 28.58 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 55.87 per cent of the country’s total exports to all countries in the world.

The imports of goods from the Asian and African countries reached $ 173.69 billion last year, up by 23.63 per cent compared with 2016 and accounted for 85.45 per cent of the country’s total imports from countries all over the world.

- Trade exchange with the Asian countries:
Last year, the total trade exchange between Vietnam and the Asian countries was estimated at $ 279.62 billion, up by 24.2 per cent compared with 2016 and accounted for 67.8 per cent of the country’s total trade exchange with the countries all over the world.

Of the figure, the country exported $ 110.96 billion worth of goods to, and imported $ 168.66 billion worth of goods from the Asian countries, increased by 29.9 per cent and 20.7 per cent respectively year – on – year. The country got $ 57.7 billion of deficit in trade exchange with the Asian countries.

- Trade exchange with the African countries:
In 2017, the total trade exchange between Vietnam and the African countries was estimated at $ 3.58 billion, up by 10.4 per cent compared with 2016 and accounted for 0.87 per cent of the country’s total trade exchange with the countries all over the world.
Of the figure, the country exported $ 2.17 billion worth of goods to, and imported $ 1.41 billion worth of goods from the African countries, decreased by 1.03 per cent and up by 34.4 per cent respectively year – on – year. The country got $ 759.1 million of surplus in trade exchange with the African countries, down by 33.5 per cent compared with 2016.

- Trade exchange with the Oceania countries (Australia and New Zealand):
Last year, the total trade exchange between Vietnam and the Oceania countries was estimated at $ 7.32 billion, up by 21.86 per cent compared with 2016 and accounted for 1.78 per cent of the country’s total trade exchange with the countries all over the world.
Of the figure, the country exported $ 3.69 billion worth of goods to, and imported $ 3.63 billion worth of goods from the Oceania countries, increased by 14.5 per cent and 30.4 per cent respectively year – on – year. The country got $ 67.2 million of surplus in trade exchange with the Oceania countries.

Export markets
North East Asian markets: In 2017, Vietnam’s exports of goods to China were estimated at $ 33.7 billion, up by 53.72 per cent year – on – year; to Japan - $ 16.7 billion, up by 14.1 per cent; to South Korea - $ 14.7 billion, up by 29.3 per cent; to Hong Kong - $ 7.6 billion, up by 24.6 per cent; to Taiwan - $ 2.7 billion, up by 12.4 per cent.
South East Asian markets: The exports to Thailand were estimated at $ 4.75 billion, up by 28.9 per cent; to Malaysia - $ 4.3 billion, up by 27.8 per cent; to Indonesia - $ 2.86 billion, up by 9.2 per cent; to Singapore - $ 3 billion, up by 24.1 per cent; to the Philippines - $ 2.8 billion, up by 27.9 per cent; and to Cambodia - $ 2.7 billion, up by 23.9 per cent.

Western Asian markets:
The country’s exports of goods to the U.A.E were estimated at $ 5.2 billion, up by 3.54 per cent; to Turkey - $ 1.9 billion, up by 42 per cent; Israel - $ 712.6 million, up by 28.6 per cent.

South Asian markets:
The country’s exports of goods to India were estimated at $ 3.7 billion, up by 36.8 per cent; to Bangladesh - $ 864.3 billion, up by 55.8 per cent.
African markets: The country’s exports of goods to Egypt were estimated at $ 321.6 million, up by 9.8 per cent; to Algeria - $ 287.9 billion, up by 6.2 per cent.

Oceania markets:
The country’s exports of goods to Australia were estimated at $ 3.2 billion, up by 12.8 per cent; to New Zealand - $ 462.7 billion, up by 28.6 per cent.
