Fisheries sector aims for US$9 billion export value in 2018
Wednesday, January 17,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s fisheries sector will focus on high-tech farming of shrimp and tra fish to get an export revenue of US$9 billion in 2018.
Vietnam gained its highest ever seafood export value of US$8.32 billion in 2017, a year-on-year rise of 18%.
The US, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea were the top four export markets for Vietnamese seafood products, accounting for 55.3% of the total national export value.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam says priority will be given to enforcing the 2017 Fishery Law and overcoming the consequences of natural calamities and the 2016 marine disaster in the central region.
“We need to concentrate on the transparency of fishing activities rather than increase the exploitation of marine resources. Advanced technology is incentivised in aquaculture to raise output and ensure food safety standards," he notes.
