Seafood exports saw growth of 18 per cent in 2017
Tuesday, January 16,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s seafood exports totaled US$ 8.32 billion in 2017, increased by 18 per cent over the year of 2016, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The U.S was leading the list of 45 major seafood export markets of Vietnam with the export turnover of $ 1.41 billion, slightly decreased by 1.9 per cent and accounted for 16.9 per cent of the total.
Japan ranked second with over $ 1.3 billion, up by 18.6 per cent; and then China – over $ 1.09 billion, up by 59.4 per cent; South Korea - $ 778.54 million, up by 28 per cent.
Last year, the country’s exports of seafood to Denmark increased sharply by 83.6 per cent to $ 66.69 million; to Israel – up by 53.8 per cent to $ 72.25 million; to Brazil – up by 55.7 per cent to $ 105.9 million; to the Philippines – up by 62 per cent to $ 131.29 million; and to Pakistan – up by 63 per cent to $ 38.1 million.
The country exports of shrimp reached a record high of $ 3.8 billion in 2017, up by over 21 per cent year – on – year, while the exports of Tra fish reached nearly $ 1.8 billion, up by 4 per cent. The exports of tuna hit $ 600 million, up by 16 per cent; and the exports of squids and octopus reached nearly $ 600 million, up by 42 per cent.
In 2017, China surpassed the U.S in the list of top Tra export markets of Vietnam with $ 420 million, up by 37 per cent. China also became the third shrimp export market of Vietnam after EU and Japan with the export turnover of $ 677 million, up by 60 per cent year – on – year.
According to VASEP, China will still be the important and potential markets for Vietnamese seafood businesses in the next time. VASEP is also expected that Vietnam’s seafood exports may reach over $ 8.5 billion in 2018.
