MMA fighting may finally be coming to Vietnam
Friday, June 14,2019AsemconnectVietnam - Professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting may finally be coming to Vietnam.
After several false dawns, the Singapore-based ONE Championship has announced plans to hold an event in the country in September, ONE Championship’s Chairman Chatri Sityodtong shared in a press briefing in Ho Chi Minh City on June 12.
Sityodtong said he had little detailed information to share, but more would be available about two months before ONE: Immortal Triumph.
He also talked about the organisation’s expansion strategy in Vietnam and plans to introduce local martial arts to the world.
“ONE Championship’s entry into Vietnam is coming at the right time. As the leader of the world’s largest martial arts organisation, I would like to showcase the true essence of martial arts through its deep-rooted values of integrity, humility, honour, respect, courage, discipline, and compassion,” said Sityodtong.
"Our goal is to make the world a better place through martial arts and to build real-life superheroes who ignite the world with hope, strength, dreams, and inspiration. Our superstars are ready to showcase their amazing skills. I cannot wait to tell their stories."
Vietnam has a rich martial arts culture with many styles such as Vovinam, Binh Dinh Gia and Tay Son Vo Dao.
He said ONE Championship aims to celebrate this rich martial arts culture, discover martial arts talents and contribute to the future of Vietnamese martial arts.
Just last month, JUST MMA had to pull plans to hold an event in HCM City on June 15 due to licensing issues.
