Japanese firm to supply 15,000 ventilators to Vietnam
Thursday, April 2,2020AsemconnectVietnam - Japan’s leading ventilator manufacturer, Metran, is set to turn out 15,000 ventilators for the Vietnamese market and has pledged to transfer its patent rights to partners to significantly step up production to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The first batch of 2,000 units for Vietnam will be shipped in the coming weeks.
Tran Ngoc Phuc (Kazufuku Nitta in Japanese), chairman of Metran, told Vietnam News Agency on March 31 that many countries, including Japan, have registered to buy ventilators made by Metran.
However, its production capacity is limited, so the firm is working with the world’s leading consulting companies to transfer the patent rights for manufacturing these ventilators to others that comply with Metran’s policies and requirements. This is expected to ramp up ventilator production in the global market.
Metran is also planning to cooperate with a partner in Vietnam to turn out the 15,000 ventilators for the market, Phuc said, adding that the firm will share its patent rights with its partner.
However, the firm is also facing difficulties in buying accessories, especially essential parts for ventilators, including flow sensors and pressure sensors, as a number of the world’s ventilator producers had earlier registered to purchase them.
Phuc expected the firm to quickly find new sources of component supplies with the support of global consulting firms so that it can produce 5,000-10,000 ventilators per month.
In its first month of production, Metran is set to turn out 1,000-2,000 units and then move toward to its target of a monthly capacity of 5,000-10,000 units.
