The carrier has submitted this proposal to the Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam, the Ministry of Transport and the Phu Yen People’s Committee, the online newspaper cited Nguyen Ba Khai, deputy head of the provincial Transport Department as saying.

According to Khai, four flights will be deployed on the route each week. The proposed flight will be transited via China before landing at Tuy Hoa Airport in the province.

Pham Ngoc Kinh, director of Tuy Hoa Airport suggested airlines and tour operators from both Viet Nam and Russia effectively co-operate in attracting Russian tourists to the Southeast Asian country via Tuy Hoa Airport in the near future.

The Airports Corporation of Viet Nam is developing a plan to widen Tuy Hoa Airport and build a new terminal with a capacity of 2.5 million passengers per year in the period 2020-25.

Last year more than 337,000 passengers arrived at Tuy Hoa Airport, equaling 61 per cent of its present capacity.

By 2020, the capacity of Tuy Hoa Airport will reach 600,000 passengers per year, and by 2030 will be three million per year, according to the scheme to develop airway transport by 2020, which has been approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

At a recent investment promotion conference in the locality, Nguyen Manh Hung, vice president of Vietjet has suggested the development of a terminal which will be able to serve four million passengers annually.
